Announcing The Whickers Radio & Audio Award Finalists 2022
We are thrilled to announce our 2022 Radio & Audio Funding Award finalists! Take a look below for the full story of each project in the running to win our coveted annual Radio & Audio Funding Award (RAFA).
Jane Ray, Artistic Director of The Whickers, said of this year’s competition:
“I am grateful to everyone to applied for the RAFA 2022. It was a humbling and fascinating experience to hear them, and picking just five was heart breaking for us all. However, I am so excited for the five that we have chosen. Each of these emerging audio talents is trying something fresh and new. Whether the topic is homelessness, racism, gender stereotyping, or neurological difference, the warmth and originality that characterises these five pieces sets them apart.”
Unlike in previous years, our RAFA finalists will not be pitching their projects for a chance to become this year’s winner. Instead, our finalists have already won £1,000 each and are invited to join our Audio Development Workshop in January 2023. The workshop is designed to bring on the excellent projects even further, through sharing experiences and with the help of some of the best audio experts in the biz.
Following the workshop, our 2022 RAFA Winner will be selected by our esteemed panel of judges, and will take home an additional £4,000 plus £1,000 worth of professional mentorship to see their project through to completion.
Our winner will be announced on Rare FM – the University of London’s truly Global radio station on 10th January 2023, evening time GMT, and on our website shortly after.
Yiannis Goeldner-Thompson, Head of Rare FM said: “Rare FM is thrilled to have been chosen by The Whickers to announce the winners of The Whickers’ Radio & Audio Funding Award 2022. As a student led Radio Station with over 150 members that broadcasts 24/7, we thoroughly understand the importance of Radio in the modern age, and giving individuals a platform to promote debate and creativity. Although we are a small station, we have global reach and are very excited about expanding the type of content that we produce.”
